Jaeger-Bender Family

Emily Jaeger and I met at BIMA: Jewish Arts Camp in 2004. I was there for music and she was there for creative writing. We’re pretty sure that we fulfilled the main goal of Jewish summer camp (matchmaking!) with our wedding in 2016. Isaiah, our rescue mastiff (who really has an unhealthy love for challah), joined the family in 2017. In our home, we choose to rejoice in Judaism through song, Yiddish poetry, halakhic debate, and, of course, delicious Jewish cooking. We hope to welcome you into our home, our family, and to give you a taste of Emily’s famous squash kugel (passed down through the Jaeger generations).

Emily Jaeger is an educator and professional writer with an M.F.A in Creative Writing from UMASS Boston and a B.A. in Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. She likes to joke that she went to Jewish day school from preschool through college. Emily loves to share her wealth of Jewish knowledge with Bnai Israel through chanting and guest-teaching for sisterhood.

Isaiah is fondly referred to as the “Gentle Giant” and the “Goodest Boy.” Isaiah was adopted in 2017 from the Humane Society of Westchester. Isaiah is a graduate of the Port Chester Obedience Training Club. He also has an advanced degree, Canine Good Citizenship, from the American Kennel Club. In his free time, he likes playing with his dreidel, napping, and snuggling.
