Celebrate the Jewish Year with Rabbi Chaya Bender

Challah Baking
Learn everything you “knead” to know about preparing this traditional Shabbat bread.
This hands-on program can be adapted for all ages.

Day of Sukkah Decoration and Learning
Families join together to decorate the synagogue sukkah with crafts for children of all ages (and the young at heart) including the popular “edible sukkah” to take home. This program is paired with a Lunch & Learn for adults focused on the ritual of sukkah-building.

Simchat Torah Celebration
Celebrate Simchat Torah with activities for all ages including a parade of the Torahs, dancing, singing, trivia for Hebrew school, and more.

Purim
My purim program is a multi-day extravaganza which includes a purim carnival for the Hebrew school, preschool puppet show, family megillah reading and purim shpiel (silly play), and bourbon bar for the adults. Another highlight is the preschool visit to Lunch & Learn to sing songs for senior citizen congregants.

Passover
In every generation, we are commanded to experience the exodus as if we were there. I take this charge seriously, leading multiple seders and educational opportunities throughout the weeks leading up to Passover. Some events include: the chocolate seder (geared towards elementary school), women’s seder, and interfaith seder, matzah-making for families, and Lunch & Learn (adult ed) about Passover rituals.
